The Montour to the Panhandle Trail, PA

Definitely do not drink the water in McDonald, Pennsylvania!

No room at the inn
Well, through all of these miles I finally encountered my first lack of hospitality.  Asked if I could pitch my tent on their lawn and was turned down.   Let's make sure we never do that at Grace United Methodist Church.

(Five miles down the trail, someone from the church called my cell phone and they had changed their mind, but it was too late for me.  This might help the next cyclist who comes along.)

  1. Sorry to hear about the lack of hospitality, but hopefully they will have a change of heart for the next cyclist.

  2. Hello Steve, Don and I continue to read about your journey with wonder!
How is it that you can find your way across country on a bike and we have not been able figure out how to "reply" to your blogspot! With regard to your most recent photo, I decided the creek water in McDonald, Pennsylvania looks much like my 'mop water' this evening in Forsyth, Illinois! We appreciate your exquisite descriptions and photographs of the natural beauty you have observed on your journey. I am especially touched by the extension of hospitality you have encountered along the way and feel no small amount of shame that I have looked the other way (out of 'fear') when offered the same opportunity to serve. Our prayers continue with you on your journey. Many blessings, Vicki & Don

  5. In college, my roommates and I let a guy we met out at a bar stay with us for a night, which was a bad decision. He left in the middle of the night, only after he stole several jars full of loose change! So, when you get to Seattle, you can stay with us, but don't be offended if I hide my change.
Have you tried any "warm showers" lately?

    1. Hi Kevin, yes I have indeed been using "warm showers" and have enjoyed meeting the folks who have hosted me. With regards to the coins, I don't want one more ounce of weight on my bicycle so you'll be safe.
