Cedar Rapids, IA

Took today off so I could spend time with the Weigands, good friends that I've known for years, and had a wonderful dinner that Beth prepared. Tom will accompany me on part of the trip tomorrow... it will be nice to have some company for a change. We're praying for no wind and mild weather.

Driveway leading to the Weigand's home

I've always kidded Tom that he looks like he's got a chew under his lip... Only his dentist knows for sure.

  1. It’s now a month since you left the Veteran’s Memorial in Washington, and what experiences lie behind you from the most peaceful ones alone away from it all, through extreme cold and rain storms, through extreme beauty of nature and people.
I was delighted to hear that you are “falling in love with the USA all over again”. It reminds me of Doris Haddock, an American political activist who walked across the country in 2010 at age 90 to campaign for finance reform. She wrote as enthusiastically about all the warm people she met. And why do you encounter such kindness, generosity, open arms, and beauty? The saying goes: you get what you give.
Your blog is my bedtime reading, and I often lay down with a wet eye because of your touching accounts. And very special thanks for finding the time to write a thank you note. Amazing.
Keep pedaling, because I want to read more about it. Irmgard

  3. Will your travels take you close to the Cedar Rapids plant? You should stop by and make sure they are staying in line with their fermentation procedures! The ADM group says hello!

    1. Unfortunately I've already come and gone to Cedar Rapids. I met with a friend that I've known for a number years and stayed at his home. Would've loved to see the guys but there just was not enough time.
