Harpers Ferry, IA

Had a great ride today to Harpers Ferry, Iowa. Got in my 40 miles and then I saw these cabins... I just couldn't help myself...they are so cool!  One of these in the Rockies and I would be in Heaven.  Should make it to Minnesota tomorrow.

  1. I am still enjoying your posts immensely. It would seem that the beautiful scenery is exceeded only by wonderful friends that you make along the way!

  2. I'm having a great time, wish we could've hooked up while I was in Decatur...maybe sometime in the future.

  3. Hi Steve,
With my travels and other things going on I fell behind on your updates but got caught up last night. I wish I was watching closer at the time as you were right by my parents camping at Yellow River State Forest when you were at Harpers Ferry. I hope you found north east Iowa as beautiful as I do. Kayaking the Yellow River in the spring or the Upper Iowa around Decorah and Lansing any time of year would be great. When you are back relaxing and following up with friends you met from the trip hopefully a trip back to NE Iowa canoeing and trout fishing will be on the list. From Cascade north through Iowa you were right in my stomping grounds before having to come to flat central Illinois. I love going back to that area.
I must say that I had to pause when reading last night and had goose bumps about the story of meeting Mary in Dyersville. I had to read a second and third time as when I was working on the Summer Camp staff in that area it was in the early 90’s when a fellow staff member was killed while riding his bicycle near his home in Dyersville. I worked many years with him at camp and became very good friends. He had great family and his two younger brothers also served on Camp staff with me and were also great friends. I’ll never forget the day his parents drove in to camp to get his younger brother (who was also battling and beat cancer at the time) to tell him the news…..
Your stories have been truly amazing and really remind us of the personal aspect of everything we do. Keep pedaling!
